Reporting

TestGoal focuses on the result. But merely focusing on the result is not enough; informing those involved on the degree in which the result is achieved is also important. This is done on the basis of the test report, which has the purpose to provide overview and understanding of the progress of the test project and the quality of the object that is being tested.

The test report is a snapshot of the situation that compares the result with the intended result. On the basis of the test report, the recipient can decide whether action should be taken. If everything follows the (test) plan, there is no need to take action. Often however, action is needed, and priorities should be transferred or new activities should be made out. The TestGoal reports provide the business management with all the guiding information that is needed to make well-founded decisions.

Reporting and graphics

The test reporting takes place on the basis of data extracted from the test process, and is presented in tables, lists and graphics. Graphics easily present an image of progress, but actually it is about uncovering the story behind the graphics.

Basically, the instructing party decides what information should be included in a test report. However, the instructing party does not always know what information it wishes to acquire. TestGoal assists in making this choice, describing the elements that can constitute the test report. About every element, an explanation is given of what it is for and what information can be deducted from it. This not only assists the tester in making the report, but can also serve as an instruction for the instructing party, which then can interpret the test report himself.
